Happy memories make the best souvenirs, but it never hurts to take photographs, record your thoughts, and collect memorabilia that will remind you of that summer moonlit dance or a delightful lunch at a seaside restaurant. Here are some ideas to help you create a one-of-a-kind memory album.

  • When saving memorabilia and recording your experiences, think beyond conventional scrapbooks and journals. The point is to make your memory book as interesting and descriptive as possible. Keep in mind that it's also important to record the small, ordinary items, such as what you had for your first dinner as newlyweds or a list of potential name you have picked out for a baby.
  • When you're on a trip, pick up small items that can later be pasted into a scrapbook or journal. Matches, coasters, napkins, flyers, ticket stubs and receipts are but a few of the freebies you can use to remember your travels. Also, consider saving items to record your first year of marriage. Sometimes a grocery receipt can tell more about at a particular point in your life than a picture can.
  • If you save newspaper clippings, treat them with the following recipe to keep them from yellowing. Pour one capful of Milk of Magnesia into a bottle of club soda. Replace the cap and slowly turn the bottle upside down to mix. Store overnight in the refrigerator. The next day, put the solution into a glass bowl or baking dish. Place the newspaper clipping in the solution for two minutes, then lay the clipping between with paper towels and carefully dab off the solution. Lift the clipping and place between two pages of thick white paper. Weight the paper down with several books and leave overnight. Use only for newspaper prints; this process will make original ink bleed.
