My brother was just asked to be best man in a wedding. He has no idea what he's supposed to do. Can you help? -- Tara
Dear Tara:
Nowadays, the best man is responsible for as much or as little as the groom wants him to be. It's a good idea for the groom to let the best man know what's expected. But, since many grooms fail to do that, here's what the best man is traditionally responsible for:
- Planning the bachelor party.
- Assisting the groom in getting the guys to order their formal wear.
- Supervising the groomsmen and ushers before and on the wedding day.
- Making sure the groom gets to the ceremony site on time.
- Holding the rings, marriage license and officiant's fee.
- Spending time with the groom on the wedding day.
- Making the first toast at the reception.
