Q I'm trying to put together a timeline/schedule for my wedding reception.

I know I can arrange things however I want them, but I don't want my guests thinking I'm an idiot for doing things wrong.

A For the order of the reception, you can do things in any order you wish, but the usual order is:

  • Grand entrance
  • 1st dance
  • [optional: father-daughter dance, mother-son dance, or these go after the first toasts]
  • Best Man's Toast
  • Maid of Honor's Toast
  • Start of dinner, with dancing during the meal and between courses
  • Additional toasts after the meal, such as your toast to your parents
  • Cutting the cake
  • Bouquet toss, if you'll have that tradition

Again, you can toy with the order of things to suit the timing of your event -- it's completely up to you.
