Where to have your ceremony and wedding reception is one of the first questions you need to answer, but finding that perfect location isn't always easy. You could get married at home, in a hotel ballroom or plan a destination wedding at an exotic location. To help you decide on the right space for your wedding, the Anti-Bride Wedding Planner lays out the pros and cons of each location type. Home Sweet Home
Pros: Meaningful, informal, flexible, familiar, and best of all, private. With friends and family pitching in, labor costs less.
Cons:Rental overload, noise ordinances, limited space, storage and insurance costs, inadequate outlets and PARKING.
Catering Hall/Hotel
Pros:One-stop shopping: rentals, a full-service staff, catering, a banquet room, room discounts for you and your guests.
Cons:One-stop shopping comes with a hefty price tag. Rigid schedules and menus, production-line food, extra charges for valet parking, corkage fee, cake cutting.
Bar/Restaurant
Pros:Space issues-use it to explain why you couldn't invite the office. A low-cost option. If you're a regular, or you met your sweetie there, it's meaningful.
Cons:Space issues-can everyone you want to invite fit? Inadequate facilities and parking. Bars may not have a kitchen.
Private Club (such as a country or social club)
Pros:No wedding-factory feel. Fewer people to deal with and better service. Beautiful sites and sceneries, such as golf courses or skyline views.
Cons:May need to be a member or be sponsored. Expensive. Commissioned caterers and varying food quality.
Civic Site (historic and university buildings, park, garden, museum)
Pros:Subsidized by taxpayers, these can be a great bargain. Parks and gardens are natural, beautiful backdrops, so fewer flowers are needed.
Cons:Often have time and beverage restrictions. Keep in mind that setup may have to take place after closing (4 or 5 P.M.).
Exotic Destination
Pros:Intimate-a great excuse for a limited guest list. A beautiful, unusual setting and a potential vacation experience.
Cons:Expensive, but remember, you're not feeding 150 guests. Possible language and cultural barriers.
