Q

My fiancé and I are planning our wedding and we found this really nice mansion in the Boston area for September 2000. The only problem is that all the guests wouldn't fit into one room for dinner, and we do not want to separate our guests into different rooms. Our alternative is to have the seated dinner outside, and have the cocktail hour before dinner, and dancing after dinner, inside. We will use tents outside, but I am a little concerned about dinner -- particularly, the weather, bugs, rain, etc. I want my guests to be happy. Please, I need advice! -- cbella

Dear cbella,

Relax, there have certainly been plenty of successful dinner receptions served outside, and no reason why yours shouldn't be one. But, as you mentioned, you do have to worry about the weather. The great thing is that tents can provide wonderful coverage from the elements should the weather not turn out to be ideal on your wedding day. You can even have a heated or air-conditioned tent, should that be necessary, although those options tend to increase the price. FYI: The classic wedding tent is a push-pole tent. It's usually the least expensive, too.

You may want to spend extra money on flooring. Even though you'll be having your dancing inside, having flooring in the tent is a good idea, especially if Boston tends to get a lot of rain in September or if the ground you will be setting up on is especially uneven. It will make life easier for your guests, especially anyone in high heels (it's no fun to sink into the soft or wet ground when you're wearing dress shoes).

Hope this helps.
