Q

Dear Wedding Women,

My fiance and I want to offer a choice of entrees at our reception dinner: chicken or filet mignon. My reception facility requires coded name cards. If a couple indicated that they want one of each on the place cards, how am I to know who gets what? I could call everyone, but we are inviting over 400 people! I am sure there is a way to label the RSVP cards so that people write the individual names along with their choice of entree, but I am not exactly sure how. Any suggestions?

Dear sd,

Don't drive yourself nuts about this! If you've got one table card for two people, simply code the card twice (c, for chicken, b, for beef, so that each table card reads: "2 b" or "2 c" or "1 b/1c"). If there are two different meals coded to one card, such as in the last example, the waiter will be smart enough to ask which member of the couple gets what. All your caterer really means to do by requiring you to code your name cards is to get a fairly accurate count on how much of each entree he needs to prepare and bring out to each table.

Hope this helps,
